Mental Health Groups

Student Mental Health Services offers a range of groups and workshops to support your mental health. If you would like to participate in one or more groups, please click the respective button and complete the interest form. Each group will only run if sufficient interest is demonstrated.  


Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group

The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills group provides support in the areas of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness. Sessions are conducted virtually on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Students may register for any of the three modules or for the full 24 week cycle. If you have questions about the DBT skills group, or you’d like to join, please email studentlifeline@ontariotechu.ca.


Depression Support Group

Monday's from 2 to 3:30 p.m. | September 30 to November 25

Are you feeling sad, isolated, unmotivated or living with extended periods of low mood? You are not alone. Register for the Depression Support Group to connect with other students who share these struggles and to learn coping strategies for improving your mood and quality of life.

Please note: This is an eight week group and students are expected to attend every week. If the timing conflicts with your class schedule or other commitments we encourage you to check back for future group offerings instead.
We ask that students attend group with cameras on.

Elevate Connections Journey

Join this eight-week support group crafted to uplift and empower you in your quest to overcome loneliness. You will engage in lively activities, share stories and acquire practical tools to enrich your social connections.

Running from October 2 to November 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 323, located within the Student Life Suite.

  • October 2: Understanding loneliness

  • October 9: Exploring social connections

  • October 16: Mindfulness and loneliness

  • October 23: Addressing negative thoughts of loneliness (cognitive restructuring)

  • October 30: Building meaningful connections

  • November 6: Addressing self-esteem and loneliness

  • November 13: Social skills and loneliness

  • November 20: Reflecting on progress and moving forward

Weekly meal support group: One meal at a time 

Tuesdays from October 8 to December 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This program is designed for those experiencing distress around eating across a range of experiencesfrom past and current disordered eating to eating disorders diagnoseswhere healing your relationship with food is the ultimate goal. Join Michelle Pitman, RSW, Eating Disorders Psychotherapist and Lori Brownson, RPN, Mental Health and Wellness Navigator. In this support group, we use the power of social connection to make mealtime less stressful and get through one meal at a time, together.

Yoga, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Group

Yoga, mindfulness and self-compassion are all evidence-based approaches for improving our sense of peace and well-being. Please join us for this delightful group that includes gentle movement, inspired learning and soothing meditation.

Recovery College

Ontario Tech has partnered with the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences since 2020 to bring the Recovery College model of student-driven mental health support to our students. Recovery College courses are co-designed and co-facilitated by Ontario Tech students.  These courses provide education about mental health and wellness and empower students to discover or rediscover connection, passion, hope and meaning.
