MyStart: Academic

MyStart: Academic is an academic transition program that provides new students with a head start in their university career. At MyStart: Academic, you'll have the opportunity to attend a variety of faculty-specific interactive workshops and activities. MyStart: Academic includes an introduction to:

  • Active study strategies
  • Common assignments
  • Managing university expectations
  • Math* and/or writing review
  • Mental health strategies
  • Mock lecture by a faculty professor
  • Navigating the library website and accessing library resources and tools
  • Planning and time management
  • Q&A with upper year students
  • Research skills

*For students in the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, or Faculty of Science Faculties, MyStart: Academic will be focused on practicing math skills required for entry-level university math and science courses. Students will have the opportunity to review algebra, equations, inequalities, trigonometry, functions, and vectors as well as meet their math professors. 

Faculty of Business and Information Technology students will also review math skills on day two of MyStart: Academic and participate in a meet and greet with the faculty Dean. Students will review prerequisite math such as solving equations and inequalities, working with functions, simplifying expressions, finding ratios and proportions, and problem solving.
