Peer Wellness Education Team

Peer Wellness Educators are current Ontario Tech students, responsible for advocating and educating their peers on a variety of health topics including emotional wellbeing, self-care, sleep, active living, food and nutrition, substance use, and sexual health.

This team develops and delivers workshops and displays, supports events, disseminates evidence-based information, and implements campaigns to promote health- and wellness-related resources available on and off campus.

Peer Wellness Educators are recruited along with the other student leadership positions. Applications open near the end of the Fall term for the following academic year, so keep an eye on your email inbox, the Student Life Leadership Positions page, and @otstudentlife on Instagram.

Alina Lakhan (she/her)

Alina is a third-year nursing student completing her community health placement with Ontario Tech Health Promotions. As part of the Peer Wellness Education Team, Alina is excited about learning about health promotion and how to better the health of the student population. Alina likes to go for walks and journal to maintain her health and wellness.

Amber Rizvi (she/her)

Amber is a fourth-year student in the Human Health Sciences program. Amber joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she is passionate about promoting health and wellness. She wants to encourage her fellow students to take care of themselves and one another, and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Amber likes to go on walks with her family and friends and paint and draw in her free time.

Andrew Campitelli (he/him)

Andrew is a third-year student in the Life Sciences program. Andrew joined the Peer Wellness Education Program as a way to educate others about the importance of maintaining a healthy balance of school, physical activity and social life. Andrew likes to maintain his physical activity by playing sports in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre and playing on different sport teams.

Chandni Prajapati (she/her)

Chandni is a third-year student in the nursing program. Chandni joined the Peer Wellness Education Program as part of her community health placement, and she is excited to promote health and wellness by educating her peers on different health topics, and encouraging them to prioritize their health. To maintain her wellness, Chandni enjoys reading fantasy books.

Hugo Tam (he/him)

Hugo Tam is a third-year student in the nursing program completing his community health placement with Ontario Tech Health Promotions. Hugo enjoys working with the Peer Wellness Education Team because he is passionate about student health and finding ways to improve student wellness through programs and services offered on campus. He is also interested in the social and structural determinants of health, and how existing policies affect students’ health and wellness. Hugo likes to take walks, bake, and spend time with friends as a way to alleviate stress and have fun!

Jaheim Thomas (he/him)

Jaheim is a fourth-year Human Health Science student. Jaheim joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because it’s a great opportunity to work on communication skills, meet new people and help fellow students on campus get informed on a range of student health topics. Jaheim likes to go for walks and hang out with friends to stay physically and mentally well.

Jahleena Chambers (she/her)

Jahleena is a second-year student in the Collaborative Nursing program. Jahleena joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she knows what it's like to be overwhelmed, to feel lost, and to fail, and she's passionate about supporting her fellow students through their wellness journeys and times of need. To maintain her wellness, Jahleena loves to do yoga and pilates as well as take time each day to be with herself and practice self-reflection and self-care.

Keenan Cadoo (he/him)

Keenan is a third-year student in the nursing program completing his community health placement with Ontario Tech Health Promotions. Keenan’s interest in health promotion stems from interest in educating his peers on ways to stay healthy and well, especially during the school year. Keenan likes to workout and play basketball to maintain his health and wellness.

Maria Sethi (she/her)

Maria is a fourth-year student in the Life Sciences program. Maria joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she is passionate about advocating for health and wellness across campus. Her goal is to help foster a healthier campus community through various health related initiatives. To take care of her wellness, Maria loves to go on long walks along the waterfront.

Miranda Soares (she/they)

Miranda is a second-year student in the Forensic Science program. Miranda joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she wanted to help educate fellow students on the importance of prioritizing their health and wellbeing, despite the many stressors that come with being a post-secondary student. Miranda likes to go for walks, listen to music, dance, read, and watch sitcoms to self-regulate and decompress. They also love to hangout with friends to destress after long school weeks.

Sharuya Mathavan (she/her)

Sharuya Mathavan is a third-year student in the General Psychology program. Sharuya joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she wanted to get more involved on campus and advocate for the importance of wellness and mindfulness, as many post-secondary students forget the importance of taking care of themselves during the busy and stressful school year. Sharuya likes to go on nature walks, go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week and engage in de-stress activities, such as listening to music or journaling to maintain her health and wellness.

Sherin Fraser (she/her)

Sherin Fraser is a second-year student in the Life Sciences program. Sherin joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because it aligns with her passion for helping others and promoting well-being within their community. It offers her an opportunity to make a positive impact on her peers by providing support and raising awareness about mental and physical health, while also developing her own leadership skills. Sherin likes to practice mindfulness, savor sensory experiences like sunrises and nature, and engage in regular physical activity to maintain their health and wellness.

Theodora Ahanotu (she/her)

Theodora is a fourth-year student in the Mechanical Engineering program. Theodora joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she is passionate about promoting healthy habits and supporting others on their wellness journey. She believes that wellness is about balance and self-awareness. To maintain her own health, Theodora enjoys practicing mindfulness, staying active, and engaging in creative hobbies that keep her mind sharp and relaxed.

Wania Syed (she/her)

Wania S. is a fourth-year student in the Human Health Sciences program. She joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she wants to promote health and wellness on campus and wants to support fellow students in their health and wellness journeys. She believes that fostering connections and sharing various health resources can help create a supportive and friendly environment for everyone. Wania S. likes experimenting in the kitchen and following healthy recipes for snacks that are nutritious. She also likes going on nature walks.

Wania Zafar (she/her)

Wania Z. is a second-year student in the Medical Laboratory Science program. She joined the Peer Wellness Education Program because she is passionate about seeing her fellow students meaningfully engage in health and wellness initiatives on campus, and breaking down barriers to wellness. In her free time, Wania Z. enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends. 

If you're running an event on campus related to health and wellness, let us know! Our Health Promotions Co-ordinator or a Peer Wellness Educator want to collaborate and can assist with the event.
