What is health promotion?
Health promotion describes the approach used to empower individuals to become active participants along their health journeys. Health Promotions services at Ontario Tech educate, promote, and advocate for student health and wellness.
By working collaboratively with students, faculty and community agencies, we aim to provide programs, events, and resources that empower students to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and achieve personal health goals.

How can I get involved?
You can support our programming as volunteers of the Peer Wellness Education Team, or apply for a Health Promotions work-study position through University Works.

What is a Peer Wellness Educator and how can I become one?
Peer Wellness Educators (PWE) are Ontario Tech student leaders who advocate for and educate their peers on a variety of health topics, including emotional wellbeing, self-care, sleep, active living, food and nutrition, substance use, and sexual health. This team develops and delivers workshops and displays, supports events, disseminates evidence-based information, and implements campaigns to promote health and wellness-related resources available on and off campus.
Student Life recruits student leaders on a yearly basis. You can apply to become a PWE through this process. Visit the Leadership positions web page for position details and application dates. -
How can I become a Health Promotions work-study student?
Health Promotions hires undergraduate work-study students for fall, winter and summer terms. These students support the Health Promotions Co-ordinator in promoting positive health behaviors and lifestyle choices that support the academic success and the physical and mental wellness of students.

Where can I find information about your programming and resources?
Events, workshops, resources, and more can be found on our web page. We also promote our events on the events and workshops calendar, @otstudentlife Instagram, and digital screens and posters, so keep an eye out!

What is the Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC) and how can I access it?
The CHWC offers confidential health services to both Ontario Tech University and Durham College students. It is located inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (G1030). Please visit the CHWC web page to book an appointment.
